Nine watches.
Nine maps.
A place on every dial.
A commission for nine elected councillors in Canada, each with the map of the area they represented engraved into their watch dial.
The watch shown here is one of those nine. Its blue finish lets the engraving show through, revealing four levels of depth in a dial just 0.6 mm thick.
Discuss a group watch project
A shared project with a personal detail
A map carries meaning that a name or a logo alone cannot. For this commission, the connection was the place each councillor represented. We made nine watches with nine different maps, giving each piece its own identity within the same project.
The photographs on this page all show one example. They give a closer look at the finish and the way the map sits beneath the hands and hour markers.

Why we worked with white brass
We chose white brass for its silver tone and the way it behaves in the workshop. It is a metal we enjoy cutting and engraving, with a workable feel compared with harder materials such as steel.
Four depths, then a translucent finish
The map was engraved at four depth levels. That relief gives the surface a sense of depth as the watch moves in the light. On something this small, the difference is easiest to appreciate close up.
We then applied translucent blue lacquer. The colour gives the dial its character while keeping the engraved detail visible through the finish. The silver-tone markers and hands stand out against that blue background.
Your project
One idea. Individual watches.
A group commission can share a design while making room for a different map, name, number or other personal detail on each piece. This project is one example of that approach.
Tell us the approximate quantity, the occasion, what should change between watches, your timing and budget range. If you have a particular map or design in mind, describe it in your message. We will discuss what is possible for your project.
